PWA Judge Thijs van de Meer thought it'd be a good idea if we ran a Poll asking if this move from Levi Siver at the recent Cabo Verde PWA World Cup was an Air Taka or a Goyta?
Levi Siver - Air Taka or Goyta? from CaboVerdeWorldCup.com on Vimeo.
In my mind it's pretty clear what it is.
OK then. I'll be straight up and say I think it's a Goyta - but who am I to argue with my big Dutch friend?
In fairness Thijs hasn't told me what he thinks it is yet - I just can't see why it's up for debate?
What do you think? I've put a Poll on the right of this page for you to put your opinion.
By the way - if you've got a Blog or website please feel free to export any of the polls to your own site so we can get a wider sample of opinions. Thanks.
PS. If you're not a Dutch speaker, check out Thijs' Blog for some good 'extra' snips and snaps from the PWA scene.
They are very similar moves, but are different in terms of the degree of inversion. Goiters now are very different from the original inverted goiters by people like Mark Angulo and Matt Pritchard. I have scoped the web to try to find an image I remember of Matt doing one where he was totally up-side-down, sail and all, but no luck. I think the success rate of landing them is going way up since they are not nearly as inverted as they originally were, so the air taka which is really a flatter spin, is becoming confused with the much less-inverted goiters.
I'd call Levi's a goiter too.

Hi Fish thanks for that. I know what you mean. Rush Randle, MP, Mark Pedersen and qute a few guys used to do real inverted ones alright - guess a few still do. There was a flatter one like this in The Windsurfing Movie too which was 'on the edge'. Still, I think they're all cool. Wish I could do one!

I agree, they are both awesome moves and it would be cool to be able to do either!

Clearly a goiter, and Levi is the absolute master. Watch the windsurfing movie, and his goiters in the morocco section... absolutely sick !
