After last week's scare, I got this more positive-sounding message from the, now closed, Save the Waves of Fuerteventura Facebook Group.
<<<
At the meeting in Coraljo the president of the Cabildo (island government) stated that AT NO TIME had hey intended to prohibit surfing or any other nautical sports in Fuerteventura. This slightly different than the Alcaldesa told the surf schools, so we will see. Actions sometimes speak louder than words.
He continued that they are conscious of what surfing in all its forms, as well as other nautical sports, bring to the islands tourism market and the direct and indirect impact of this on the local economy.
He also recognized that this ADVANCE document was full of errors and that they plan on taking into account the views on the document by private parties, associations and federations, such as those presented on behalf of the APSO (Association of Surf Professionals of La Oliva) which basically request that the North Shore remain open for the practice of all water sports, into account.
Within 4 to 6 months a new PROVISIONAL document will be ready and that they will again call on us to examine the new document and take in any possible comments/alegations that might be made to that next version of the document.
The fact that he took the time to meet with us, explain their position and open the floor to anyone present for comments or questions is already a positive action.
Thank you for your time and support. We are now closing the group. If the Cabildo change their minds, we will let you know.
